Personally I try to make each city as viable as possible. To me this is more challenging and realistic. Then again I also like to grow my cities organically from a small settlement.

Kind of the same, but could high rises offer some retail as well as office. Alot of high rise building have retail on the ground floor, and even internally to supply local demand? Im not sure if this is possible, however, if it was it would be a great addition.

Just lay some grass/trees/plaza beside it and this will fix it - you can delete the same once it is fixed.

I believe that they are just bridges. Thats how I do it anyway. Expensive, but it works.
