Train stations

Postby macko123456 » 24 May 2011, 13:18

I know the train system is pretty shoddy in CXL 2011 (at least, the overground is - I don't think the subway's that bad), but I've been persevering with it nonetheless. I was wondering if anyone's tried to represent a station in the game? I've seen light rail lines and I know there's no way of getting the train to stop, but I decided to try in my city, Brandon. Here's what I ended up with:

Has anyone else tried anything like this?

Is this different than the light rail? Does the train system use metrostations or other stations? Or is that just above ground metro? Does the train system move passengers? How about freight? What do you mean the train doesn't stop? It still moves passengers? Does it connect to neighbors? What building is that main station looking building there? How do you unlock the train system or light rail?

Are you planning to release a mod?

I know Pharmist is experimenting on light rail.

Im asking these as I am building a new city and would really much like to have rail lines. Planning early is important.

FHI should release a patch that deals with train/light rail. It is a needed feature and function in a city.

Bring it to life!

Yes, we definitely need trams. Does the old mod not work, or does it just look weird?

Also, not it's not a mod. I just used the normal subway tracks and adjusted the elevation so they were just above ground. It's pretty simple. I then put a path along each side and placed some more.

Well if it's the ground metro I wouldn't consume space for eye-candy train stations.. But indeed it looks nice what you have done, quite big though compared to your city/block/district sizes.

Im not sure if the light rail mod works. I know pharmist is experimenting with it, im not just sure would the tracks be on roads as it was planned by MC - Multiple lanes feature, or separate tracks running somewhere.. dunno.

The old tram mod for cxl2009 replaced the bus system.

Tram patch beta 0.5 (development stopped spring 2010)

Im going to test it with CXL2011 latest patch right away.

The tram mod made for cxl2009 works in 2011 but with bugs, it replaces the bus system but still uses same terminals, you need to lay down separate tram road which also works as a car road if im not mistaken, then you place the bus/tram terminal next to the tram road network and lay the lines just like bus lines, but when I finished the line back to the terminus the game crashed to desktop, so I stopped experimenting. I dunno Im fine with buses as well in addition to the metro as buses can use all roads im not really keen on laying separate tram road next to my expressways and avenues :D

True, true. I didn't manage to get the train stations working. It always crashes when I try to connect it to the edge of the map.

what game and patch version you have? to connect the rail to neighbors you can use highway city link - connect the rail to highway city link :) That worked in 2009.

I've got CXL 2011, patched as much as possible and with Unlocker Mod V4.
