Side by side configuration error

Postby Trajanator » 22 October 2011, 00:18

I downloaded Cities XL 2012 from steam and after it installed it would not start. So I downloaded it a second time and still the same issue. When I try to run the program from the steam folder I get this error:

"The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

I'm pretty sure my C++ is up to date. I tried installing one from a forum link from 2010 and it said a more recent version was installed. Any solutions?

It's not a question of Visual C++ redistributable up to date, it's to have the good one! You should install the 2005 version.

For an unknown reason, at the first launch, the game didn't install Visual C++ redistributable correctly.

You can find a version at your steam folder.

1 - Go to C:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\cities xl 2012
2 - Run as admin the vcredist_x86.exe to install VC++ 2005

It should fix your side by side configuration error.

I get the majority of the way through the installation and then I get an error.

Error 1935.An error occurred during the installation of assembly
'Microsoft.VC80.MFCLOC.type="win32".version="8.0.50727.6195".publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b".processorArchitecture="x86".
Please refer to Help and Support for more information.

At which point the installation ends. Do I need to get an x64 version?

EDIT: Just tried x64 and got pretty much the same error. I'm going to run a registry repair tool and see if that helps.

EDIT2: Free Window Registry Repair did not fix the problem, or at least I still get that same error.

Could you try to install the dotnetfx.exe which is in the same folder of vcredist.exe?

If it's doesn't still work, I found a webpage that may help you: http://www.error1935.org/

I also have this problem running on 64bit windows 7. The dotnetfx will not install on 64 bit. Both the x86 and 64 versions of vc_redist for c++ 2005 fail with the error similar to above.

£30 wasted, and apparently no support available.

dotnetfx did not work. I tried the 2005 64 bit one as well.

I'm also running Windows 7 64 bit.

In the French board, someone download the package from this following website to resolve his side by side configuration error:

This file is the same as the one distributed with the game. vc_redist.exe will not install without failing. This is the root of the side-by-side error.

Could you try to uninstall all version of visual C++ 2005, reboot the computer and install the one from the game?

I have done this, same issue. The install of vc_redist fails, same as before.
