Error: Failed to create D3D device

Postby Bayushi » 23 February 2012, 03:41

Greetings.

I just purchased Cities XL 2012 via Steam, and upon starting the game (following the never-ending installing DirectX, even though it's already installed), I encounter the following error:

Error
Failed to create D3D device: Unable to find requested mode (800x600 @0)

System:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1045T Processor (6 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM

Display: ATI Radeon HD 5570
Driver Date: 10/24/2011 05:19:12
Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor
Driver Name: aticfx64.dll
Driver File Version: 8.892.1.1000

Let me know if there is anything else you require.

Thank you.

This solved my issue as well. Not sure why the Catalyst Control Panel wasn't notifying me of an update.

Thank you.

Hey! Karks here I just bought this game and I also get this error.

System Info:

OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600)
Processor: AND A 10-6800K APU with Radeon HD graphics (4 CPUs), ~4.1GHz
Memory: 10240MB ram

Display Info:

AMD Radeon HD 8570 + 8670D Dual Graphics

Driver Date: 2013-08-12 3:42:24 AM

Audio Info:

USBAUDIO.sys

Date: 2014-03-18 4:13:01 AM

Also, the error says:

Failed to create D3D device: Unable to find requested mode (800x600@0)

And just so you know I have two monitors, a Dell Ultra Sharp hooked up using a VGA cable, and the other a Samsung 22' monitor, hooked up using a HDMI cable. If that effects it any way.
