Florence - The new Big Apple?!

Postby Helter_Skelter » 18 January 2011, 14:05

Hi everyone and...

Welcome to Florence

This is my first journal of my first city, so every comments, critics and advices are very welcome ;)

Florence's project is to recreate a metropolis, a symbol of the modern capitalism

ok, let me show you my city...

The territory consists of a large plain crossed by the Arno river, and some pretty high hills.

our journey must begin from downtown, from the most famous square in the city: Liberty Plaza

- Liberty Plaza is located in the northern part of downtown, it's the core of the city, the plaza was redesigned when the town hall was expanded, to become also the financial centre.

This is the old town hall

- Here is a look at the old plaza

- In the lower part of the plaza it stands a great blueprint...the statue of Liberty, and from the middle of Liberty Plaza it starts the city's main avenue...Liberty Avenue

- And now the expanded town hall:

@TheDenux: you're right, it looks a little too simple and "poor", i've got some ideas to improve it ;)

Could you post some overview shots and a traffic diagram of the city? I always love to see how others design their infrastructure.

@TheDenux: thanks for the help, but it says that the image is too big...in french! wtf?!

i've taken two aereal photos to let u understand the city

city with all the zones, some of them are only ideas
Image

Here is the norther part, on the top left the electrical zone, the airport, an unskilled neighborhood and a small chinatown ( not very visible from this far)
Image

Population has reach 3.1 millions

Traffic: There's a highway that links the city with the rest of the region, this highway is called Ring Road, it runs all around the city as a large ring

Image

I didn't combined the two photos to keep the details, of course some part are visible in both photos
Image

The traffic is huge in the ring road, some part are quite red

the metro lines are ready only for the downtown, because the other areas are not completed, i'm thinking about bus lines in the large traffic areas
