Re: Lake Rover - HUGE Update, featuring Cyprus Park!

Alright, the O Cristo Redentor mountain is almost done now. I'll be placing the Christ The Redeemer blueprint on top of it when the city itself is done. Until then, there's a construction site.

The mountain you will soon see is actually version 3.0. My first attempt was actually going quite well but a bug rendered the save incompatible, so I had to start over. V2 looked quite hideous, like 4 bulky Georgians sleeping on top of each other, but it was a significant milestone because it made me realize how to make a realistic mountain, using a technique dubbed "curved double rimming". I wouldn't bother you guys with the details of how it's done, but there is math involved.
Anyway, V_3.0 might be the finalized product. It's basically the same bulky 2.0 only with fresh curves, realistic foresting and a working two-ways-spiraling pedpath. I wish I could have made a narrower mountaintop, but the construction site wouldn't fit in...

And now, without further babbling, here's the O Cristo Redentor Mountain Reserve!!

And some context as to the frightening height of the mountain:

Uhm...it's a mountain?

Trees don't seem to fit properly, large trees such as those would slide off the mountain way too easily.

I do too. Nice job, I think it looks very realistic. ;)

The only thing is that it may stand out a little too much from the rest of the city, if you know what I mean. Would it be possible to make some "foothills" around the mountain?

I think so too, but I'm not yet sure. I don't exactly know how to do that and make it look as realistic, and the plazas don't like these kind of things either.

I think it'll be best if I wait for NEXL and the harbor mod, so I can build structures appropriately, and leave this part untouched. If it messes with the skyline, it'll be fixed. I might also re-do St. Marry's Hill while I'm at it.

Next up I'll probably expand the streets in preparation of creating new neighborhoods. Expect to see marinas, rural communities and the groundwork for a Chinatown. Probably some more neighborhoods.
In the meanwhile, here's a little teaser for the agricultural fields around Oceania:

I've also fixed up the funny-looking parts of Cyprus Park, and added street lights where appropriate. Basically I reconstructed a large part of it and it looks much better now and has a more natural transition between plazas, green areas and trails. I'll post some updated pictures when more things get done.
