Forests Mod

Postby jf2010 » 11 July 2011, 17:35

To be able to use forests, it is also necessary to have all the mods trees and shrubs

viewtopic.php?f=59&t=3860

Here is a new trees mod designed in collaboration with Peluche ( your french moderator ).
It contains 9 types of forests with three types of trees declined each of three different soils.
So these are plazas, you'll find them in Environment / Decorations.

These places have been configured to accept slopes of 60 °.

.... Image

To be sure to keep the slopes, draw a route up the slope and a second lower and after, put your area of forest.
The trees follow the slope and the ground will respect the roadside.

There are 3 categories of trees according (approximately) the geographic areas:
- 1/ Deciduous trees in temperate regions

.... Image

- 2/ Conifers for cooler regions

.... Image

- 3/ Exotic varieties for the tropics

.... Image

Low shrubs are planted to enhance the appearence of undergrowth.
Notice that the tree density is high enough to give precisely the impression of forest which is not the case with the textures of the game (or Malaya's).

Each category is broken down on three grounds :
- The texture of "waste" of brown color that looks like in this case a forest soil with fallen leaves
- The green grass texture of the Wooded Park Area of the game, allowing transition between textures
- And a splendid set of 3 textures designed expressly by Peluche, approaching more the rich colors of the undergrowth.

These plazas are very easy to place and seem to be less memory-intensive than individual trees.

This mod works only with Cities XL 2011.

You can download it on the french site of Generation City or on the canadian site of Simtropolis.
All are available with french, english and german localizations.

I have also been waiting for a forest mod like this. This is great work you have shared with us Jeff. I use all of your Tree mods and this one will really complement them well. I can now decorate my landscape much easier... :D

Thank you very much for the hard work you did making this Mod for us.

Edit: I am curious about picture #4 from the top. You show pedestrians in the forest (plaza). Are these saynetes, or have you found a way to make pedestrian plazas?

Bravo! This will come in handy when filling in parks or empty stretches of countryside. They look great. And I'm glad you made sure it wouldn't make the game lag too much - my game is slow enough!

Copy the folder at C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Focus Home Interactive\Cities XL 2011. I would recommend copying it twice, putting one copy on your desktop, and the other on an external device (flash drive, hard drive, disk, etc.) That way, if your saves corrupt you have the copy on your desktop, and if your computer crashes, you have the other copy.
